As Hong Kong Violence Continues, Has China Lost Its Patience?

The People’s Republic of China just celebrated the 70th Anniversary of its modern founding. However, violence and protests that have been taking place in Hong Kong for 17 weeks has made it difficult for the Chinese to celebrate.

Protesters have made very strong demands and have been seeking support from around the world. In response, the Chinese have ramped up Hong Kong authorities with the help of Carrie Lam, the Executive Director of Hong Kong. Further, they are building up troops across the border in Shenzhen. A cataclysmic clash seems almost inevitable.

It is a brutal situation and the question is whether the proverbial powder keg will blow or not. Carrie Lam just imposed a ban on masks using an old unilateral ruling not see in more than 50 years. Is this the match the lights the keg?
