Senator Eichorn Facing Solicitation of a Minor in a Sting Operation in Minnesota. You too?

Being charged with soliciting a minor for prostitution in Minnesota is an extremely serious offense with severe legal and personal consequences. A recent high-profile case highlighting the gravity of such charges involves Minnesota State Senator Justin Eichorn. On March 17, 2025, Senator Eichorn was arrested in Bloomington during a sting operation where he allegedly attempted to solicit sex from someone he believed to be a 17-year-old girl, who was actually an undercover detective. He was apprehended without incident and is currently facing felony charges. If you are facing charges, contact Jack Rice Defense for a free confidential consultation at 651-447-7650 or 612-227-1339.

“Criminal charges can be brutal and the consequences severe. Consider the blowback to family, a job, your reputation and more.”

Legal Penalties

Under Minnesota Statute § 609.324, soliciting a minor for prostitution is a felony offense. The severity of the penalties depends on the age of the minor involved:

  • Minor aged 16 or 17: Conviction can result in imprisonment for up to 5 years and fines up to $10,000.

  • Minor aged 13 to 15: Conviction can lead to imprisonment for up to 10 years and fines up to $20,000.

  • Minor under 13: Conviction can result in imprisonment for up to 20 years and fines up to $40,000.

Additionally, individuals convicted of soliciting a minor are typically required to register as sex offenders, which carries long-term implications for employment, residency, and community standing.

In Eichorn’s case, he was originally charged in Hennepin County with Minnesota State law crimes. However, the Federal government has criminal charges that are somewhat similar. The Feds made the decision subsequent to Eichorn’s State charges to file charges of their own. Those charges are, frankly, far more serious than the State charges and come with mandatory minimum sentences.

Collateral Consequences

Beyond legal penalties, those accused or convicted of such offenses may face:

  • Reputational Damage: Public figures, like Senator Eichorn, often experience immediate and widespread media coverage, leading to significant personal and professional repercussions. However, you don’t need to be a public figure to face such blowback.

  • Employment Challenges: A felony conviction can severely limit job prospects and may result in job loss.

  • Personal Strain: Relationships with family and friends can be profoundly affected, leading to isolation and emotional distress.

Immediate Legal Assistance is Crucial

If you are facing charges related to soliciting a minor or any other criminal allegations in Minnesota, it is imperative to seek experienced legal counsel immediately. The complexities of the legal system and the severity of potential penalties necessitate a robust defense strategy.

“Solicitation can be a horrific charge in itself. Don’t forget, it also comes with a sexual predator registration requirement.”
